They jeered. They cheered. They cussed. They threw gum. Did they win? 500 or so people filled the house galleries Tuesday night. Most opposed the proposal to eliminate federal deductability and they let Iowa lawmakers know it. And hear it. That's until House Speaker Pat Murphy kicked them out for disrupting the public hearing. House Democrats originally scheduled debate on the bill for Thursday. But apparently, the plan has now been pulled from the debate schedule. Word all over the capitol building is there aren't enough "yes" Democratic votes to pass the idea. At least not definite yes votes.
Did the protest Tuesday have anything to do with this or is this just a coincidence? Either way, as it sounds right now, don't expect a juicy debate on this Thursday. Unless it changes:)

next election will show demo`s what we think of their fine work.
The legislators of this state are ALL out of touch and none should be reelected! If they do not start appreciating their own employees , they will not have any! They should cut the Regents employees and no one els. The employee morale in this state is beyond awful!
I am glad the politicians seemed upset about this. It is about time they along with the Govenor got a wake up call....it is about time they know being in the legislature is not about "THEIR AGENDA" it is about the WILL OF THE PEOPLE who ELECTED them to represent ALL OF THEM. In a TIME OF ECONOMIC DISASTER FROM THE GREED OF SOCIETY, talking about ANY TAX HIKE is ludicrious. The State of Iowa like many of Iowas families needs to step back from the feeding trough and buckle down and only spend on NEEDED projects. Not try to figure other ways to squeeze more money from Iowans. I have no problem paying a fair share, JUST DONT TAX ME TILL I BLEED. Mark Shepard-Clive
I would say if the demo`s pass this and culver signs it, this would be a good time for them to start looking for a new job.
